A 6 years follow up on both an endodontic and a prosthetic revision.
Back in 2014 patient complained about her one year old crown which kept falling off her first mandibular molar. Extraction and implant has been suggested elsewhere because tooth was deemed non restorable but patient was keen on preserving her own tooth.
I opted for an elective root canal revision of distal root alone because even though this root canal had been revised one year before by a specialist, the obturation on the distal root was too short. Patient accepted the elective root canal revision of distal root followed by a new post and a new crown.
Previous post has been removed, followed by a time consuming procedure to recover root canal patency. Shaping with ProTaper Universal and filling.
A rigid casted post to replace the glass fibre one has been chosen as well as a PFM crown.
6 years later the bone has completely healed and the crown is still firmly anchored to the root. No implant needed here.
